Letters to our Buddies!

Our buddies are off to Outdoor Education Camp next week and we wanted to do something special for them. The kids wrote them each a letter and we are going to have Mr. Higgins give them to the big buddies during their trip. Here are a few examples of some of the letters. First, we brainstormed some things they wondered about and what questions they had. Next, they were asked to write a statement and a question, and for the most part, they wrote their letters all on their own. Lastly, they illustrated their work to match their text. I continue to be impressed by what they produce, I am very proud of these kiddos!

Art Masters: Jacob Lawrence

Today we learned about Jacob Lawrence. His art work involved many geometric shapes, using both flat and rounded shapes in his paintings. We were able to view many examples of his work and analyze his use of color and pattern throughout the paintings. We will be creating our own masterpiece next Thursday, be sure to check it out after our lesson, it will be on our gallery wall in our pod.

P.E. with Buddies, and more P.E. to come...

Here are some pictures of our buddy meet up today.  The little buddies exercised with their big buddies working on stretching, jumping jacks, running, and a fun game of "over under."  They had such a great time and really get so much out of these gatherings!

I also wanted to share that we will be starting our new P.E. program, KROC- Kids Run Orange County, in a few weeks.  We will be exercising each Tuesday from 1:10-2:10 starting 2/9.   This program is designed to inspire kids to get active and equate fitness with fun. It incorporates exciting activities and combines a focus on weekly nutritional goals that encourage healthy eating habits.  I will be our class' head coach and Ms. Salvy will be my assistant coach, any other parents interested in helping out are welcome to come out and lend a helping hand.  This program is tied to the actual Kids Run OC marathon, and for those who are interested in participating in that, they would need to sign up online.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!  On Tuesday's I ask that you have your child dress in running shoes and exercise clothes and have them bring a water bottle with their name labeled on it.  Thanks parents!!!

Hello Families!

Here are some pictures of what we have been up to lately. Our theme this month is Penguins, so be sure to ask your child what they have learned so far.  In math, we have been working on addition and subtraction.  We continue to write each day about various topics. Please practice writing at home as well, reminding the kiddos to have their text match their illustrations, including 5 key details in their drawing, starting their sentence with a capital, using finger spaces and ending each sentence with a period. :) I know I ask a lot of these little guys, but they are doing so great and I could not be more proud of them.  Continue to work on Dolch words and check out Spelling City for the next batch of assignments!  We are reviewing list 3 of Dolch words tomorrow and will start introducing List 4 words by Friday.

Remember, any time you want to talk or have a question or concern, please don't hesitate to contact me!
