Taste of Orange
Thank you Moms and Dads for all the great donations, it was a very successful sensory event. Here are a few pictures of the kids using their senses and coming up with adjectives that described the ways each item looked, smelled, tasted like, looked like, and sounded like. We had a really fun time exploring orange foods!

Buddies
Here are a few pictures of what we did with our buddies today. It was the second group doing the toilet paper art projects. They all turned out really good!
Pumpkin Jack
For the past 20 days we have been learning about decomposition and watching how Pumpkin Jack has changed over time. The kiddos logged in their journals their observations and it was really great seeing how excited they were as he went from a bright full orange pumpkin to a sad stinky flat moldy pumpkin. Here are the pictures of his journey!

Day 20
Friday, October 30, 2015
Hello! This Friday we are encouraging the kiddos to dress in orange or Halloween themed clothing. The kiddos are NOT allowed to wear costumes, but we do want them to look somewhat festive for our "Taste of Orange" event. We are also suggesting that the kiddos come to school with crazy hair, so make it fun and exciting. I may come with crazy hair myself!!!

Turning our backs on drugs!
Red Ribbon Week
Today the kiddos got their red ribbon bracelets. I am sorry to say though that a few have already gone missing. I suggested that maybe you could tie the bracelet around a piece of yarn and they can wear it as a necklace or wear them higher on their arm so they fit better...they are easy to lose :(.... The kiddos also tied red ribbons to the trees in our Kindergarten playground, showing that we are dedicated to living a drug-free healthy life. Here are the other activities for the days this week:
Tuesday- Turn in your quilt square if you are participating in the school-wide quilt wear your shirt backwards and choose a red shirt if possible
Wednesday- Wear a team shirt/sports jersey
Thursday- Wear a hat and mismatched socks/outfit
Friday- Wear boots- stylish boots, cowboy/cowgirl boots/ rainboots
We will also be collecting pennies through Thursday, with the class with the heaviest bag winning a root beer float party.
Fun things to come, show your spirit and try to participate in all the great activities!
PTA Art Reflections Contest
I am encouraging all my students to participate in the PTA Art Reflections Contest. For each student who creates a project, I will have post their work on our blog as well as reward the student with a treasure chest prize. I really want my kiddos to explore their creative side and "let their imaginations fly!" I look forward to seeing your creations. This is not required work, simply something I really support and think is worth encouraging your child to be a part of! More information is available on the California PTA website at http://capta.org/programs-events/reflections/.
Halloween Clifford
You all did such an amazing job dressing Clifford up for Halloween! I am very impressed with the creative costumes and love how proud you were of your designs! You all did spooktacular!!!
Pumpkin Jack
Today we began our exploration of Pumpkin Jack. First we described how he looked on the outside using our senses. Then I carved open the top and allowed the kiddos to put their hands in and scoop out some of the inside. It was super cool, and funny too hearing how they oohed and aahhed at the wet slimey texture of the "guts". They desribed how he felt, looked, and smelled. Next, they estimated how many pumpkin seeds were inside...enjoy looking at their responses! The actual number was 498! On Monday they will get to use their other senses of taste and hearing when they eat baked pumpkin seeds. Every few days we will log in our science journals what Pumpkin Jack looks like and learn about decomposition and how nature works over time. It is always very exciting for the kiddos to see his transformation. Here are a few pictures...Enjoy!
Buddies!!!
We did buddies again today, and it was so much fun! The big kids are so sweet and encouraging, I love it! We will try to do this every other Wednesday, although my kiddos ask every day if we are doing buddies. Enjoy the pictures and hearing about their special day with their buddies!
Jack-o-Faces!
