Scoreboard

The scoreboard is a classroom behavior management tool which also helps students stay engaged during instruction.  It is on the white board and I score the kids throughout the entire day.  There is a happy face on one side and a sad face on the other.  For positive behavior such as all students sitting quietly at their desks, lots of classroom participation, students engaged and ready to learn, basically the students showing me that they are being responsible for their learning, they get a point. The point goes under the smile, and we chant “Teacher: ‘Can I get a mighty oh yeah!’ and the kids say, ‘Oh yeah!!!’”  If the class is being overly talkative, not on task, playing around instead of doing the task at hand, then they get a point under the sad face, and I say, “Oh no…so sad.”  If the kids are getting more smiles than frowns, we get a sticker or have extra “choice” time.  If they don’t end up with more smiles, then they miss out on the sticker or extra time.
