THANK YOU HOLIDAY HEROES!!!

I appreciate all your love and support for our Holiday Heroes event. Our adopted family will be so excited to open up all their awesome gifts. You were all so sweet and generous and it means the world to me knowing that we are helping our kids understand bigger concepts such as these; to be grateful and appreciative for what they have and to know that not all people have things as nice as we do and to be extra loving and kind to those in need. I love how big your hearts are and how excited the kids were to give. A special big thank you for my gift wrappers- Raegan, her little sis, and Mrs. Good, Sophia and Ms. Wendy, Tlaloc and Ms. Alex, Ursula and her Tia, Molly and Mrs. Lake, and Zayden and Ms. Salvy... And again, thank you to all of you who contributed to this very special Christmas for our adopted family, it will mean so much to them!

Happy December!!!

Hello parents!  I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break and were able to reflect on all that you have to be thankful for as well as get in some fun and relaxation!  We have been working really hard in class transforming our room into a "Winter Wonderland."  Here are some pictures and info to keep you updated!

1) Save the date: Holiday performance will be the last day before break, Friday, 12/18/2015 at 11:30 in the information center.  Lunch is 12-12:45 and you are welcome to stay and have lunch with your loved one.

2) Snow and Snowflake- We have two new "Elf of the Shelf" friends in our class.  They are watching us closely and reporting back to Santa about how great we have been behaving and how hard we have been working!

3) Holiday Heroes- Last donations are due Tuesday and the wrapping party will be Wed. from 1-4.  If you have any extra wrapping paper or gift bags/tissue/bows...please send some in with your kiddo.

4) Dolch Words and Spelling City- We are on Dolch Word list 3 in the classroom, and the majority of the kiddos are on or just about on list 3, which is great! There are a few kiddos still on list 1 and 2, so parents please help provide that extra support for your little one so they can move onto a new set of words.  The more words they learn the more successful they will be with their reading.  Also, most of the kiddos are working on Spelling City at home, but there are a handful that have only done a few assignments.  These are helpful activities working on short vowel words and identifying spelling patterns.  I will assign list 3 activities on Wed.  Now keep in mind, the spelling list words are CVC words (consonant/short vowel/consonant words) and the Dolch words are High Frequency words- different lists.  CVC words rely on letter sound recognition and blending, where as the Dolch words are words that don't always follow letter sound patterns and need to be memorized.

5) Report cards come home on Wed. and if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.  Please note that this is a new report card to match our Common Core State Standards and that I haven't taught EVERYTHING on the report card.  If you see an area checked off, I have covered it and thus the child needs to work on that area, but please know that not all of the standards have been taught, so no one child can really attain full mastery of things quite yet.
