At the secondary level, 21st century professional development for
teachers has improved their instruction to create a more engaging
learning environment. Counselors have attended trainings to
learn how to best connect with students to improve attendance
and student outcomes. Courses such as CTE, AP/IB, ERWC and
AVID have increased school connectedness and engaged them in
their learning.
The expansion and implementation of the AVID program at the
elementary level will help develop more engaged students with
regards to their learning and increase pathways that lead to
college and career.
Students considered At risk such as Foster Youth or McKinney‐
Vento students were provided with additional support to increase
graduation rate, where the Foster Youth Coordinator met with all
high school teams to support and increase graduation rates for
foster youth, found scholarship opportunities for these students,
offered resources and services to parents, and offered counseling
for college and career readiness including graduation
requirements, A‐G requirements, CTE Pathways and other
vocational pursuits for students.
