SB277 - Required Vaccinations
On June 30, 2015, Governor Brown signed a new immunization Bill, Senate Bill (SB) 277. This law took effect on July 1, 2016 and requires that all children in California be fully immunized to attend public or private school. "Fully immunized" includes the 10 required vaccinations currently required by the state. More information is available online at www.orangeusd.org/SB277/

McPherson Magnet School
Students interested in attending McPherson Magnet School as a new student must participate in a lottery. In order to participate in the lottery at McPherson Magnet School (K-8), families will need to attend one of the orientation meetings at McPherson Magnet School. TK & Kindergarten Registration
TK & Kindergarten enrollment begins March 7, 2018.
The process for kindergarten registration is as follows:
- To complete a kindergarten registration, a parent MUST have all the required documentation; birth certificate, current immunization records, and two address verifications (even if a sibling already attends the school, the family may have moved).
- Parents may choose to complete the registration packet online or pick up the paperwork at the school site. Each school site determines the date that packets must be returned to their site.

Inter-District Transfers
*Parents/guardians requesting inter-district transfer of students into the Orange Unified School District must first obtain a release from their district of residence. The release should be taken to the school the parent/guardian wishes the student to attend. The school will verify the availability of space in the school, and/or program requested, and forward the request to the office of Student and Community Services. Student and Community Services will notify the parent/guardian of the status of their request.
Parents/guardians requesting inter-district transfer of students to a school outside the District must first obtain a release from the Orange Unified School District. The release should be taken to the receiving school or district which will be responsible for notifying the parent guardian of the status of their request.
Inter-district attendance permits for students may be approved for the following reasons:
- To meet the child care needs of a student Kindergarten through 8th grade.
- To meet a child's special mental or physical health needs as certified by a physician, school psychologist or other appropriate school personnel.
- When a student has a sibling(s) attending school in the receiving District, to avoid splitting the family's attendance.
- To allow a student to complete a school year when his/her parents/guardians have moved out of the District during that year.
- To allow students to remain with a class graduating that year from an elementary, junior or senior high school.
- To let seniors attend the same school they attended as juniors, even if their families moved out of the district during the junior year.
- To allow juniors who attended their sophomore year on an inter-district transfer to continue through their senior year.
- When the parent/guardian provides written evidence that the family will be moving to the district in the immediate future and would like the student to start the year in the District.
- When a student will be living out of the District only for one year or less.
- When recommended by the School Attendance Review Board or by county child welfare, probation or social service agency staff in documented cases of serious home or community problems which make it inadvisable for the student to attend the school of residence.
- When there is valid interest in a particular educational program not offered in the District of residence.
- To provide a change in a specific school environment for reasons of personal and social adjustment. (Requires documentation and does not apply to students going from elementary to middle school or middle school to high school.)
- District residency status may be granted to a student whose parent/guardian is employed within District boundaries; if at least one parent or the legal guardian of the pupil is physically employed within the boundaries of that district for a minimum of 10 hours during the school week.
- Special requests should be accompanied by a written explanation and will be reviewed and considered on an individual bases.
Every inter-district attendance permit shall stipulate the terms and conditions under which the permit may be revoked.
Initial requests for inter-district attendance agreements may be denied if the school's facilities are overcrowded at the relevant grade level and based on other considerations that are not arbitrary.
The parents/guardians of a student who is denied inter-district attendance regarding the process for appeal to the County Board of Education.
Students who are under consideration for expulsion or who have been expelled may not appeal inter-district attendance denials or decisions while expulsion proceedings are pending, or during the term of the expulsion.
