OUSD to Host Second Annual SAT School Day

Orange, CA – October 6, 2017 - Orange Unified School District has partnered with College Board to offer in-school SAT testing to all secondary students 8th – 12th grade. On Wednesday, October 11th, OUSD will host the second annual SAT School Day.  Students in grades eight through eleven will take the PSAT and twelfth-grade students will take the SAT.

Orange Unified responded to Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) engagement in offering this opportunity to students. Parent and student LCAP feedback indicated a desire for additional college readiness tools to prepare students for college and career.  SAT School Day supports student access by providing testing during the school day, free from extra-curricular events, scheduling conflicts, and family commitments. This event allows students to take the test in a familiar environment during their regularly scheduled school day.

Dennis Mc Cuistion, Principal of Orange High School commented, “This is an amazing opportunity for our community of high school students afforded by OUSD’s Board of Education. I am especially proud to be able to provide Orange High students access to an assessment necessary for post-secondary education. This opportunity can potentially open doors for our students’ future.”

Taking the PSAT allows students to familiarize themselves with the test and learn how they might perform on the SAT. The student’s score report helps identify their strengths and weaknesses and focus in on areas that will potentially raise their scores. Juniors who receive qualifying scores are eligible for the National Merit Scholarship competition and national recognition. All students have the opportunity to realize their college and career potential and benefit from free online resources that support score improvement available through the dynamic partnership between College Board and Khan Academy.

“Offering OUSD students the opportunity to take the SAT college entrance exam during the school day promotes college readiness and affords students the opportunity who may not otherwise have taken the exam,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Gunn Marie Hansen. “As a 21st Century District, we seek to support post-secondary success in our global economy and ensure equity and access for all students."
