OUSD Continues to Excel in Advanced Placement Participation and Scores
ORANGE, CA – July 27, 2017 – During the first two weeks of May 2017, 2,428 students (an increase of 204 from the previous year) from grades 9 – 12, across the Orange Unified School District sat down to take 5,125 Advanced Placement exams (an increase of 532 exams from the previous year). These exams were the culminating component to the year-long preparation for students to demonstrate their learning in a college level course. The teachers spent countless hours preparing the students through rigorous lessons, reviews, and study sessions. The students spent even more hours studying. The time and discipline investment paid off! The students continued to grow in their success on the exams.
Orange Unified saw growth in students earning Advanced Placement recognition on their performance on the exams. The four areas the students earned recognition in were AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, AP Scholar with Distinction, and National AP Scholar. AP Scholar is “granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.” An AP Scholar with Honor is “granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.” An AP Scholar with Distinction is “granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.” A National AP Scholar is “granted to students in the United States who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.”
