The Richland Library and Media Center is open during the school day as well as before and after school with a few exceptions, Students are welcome to use the library for checking materials in and out, to study, do research, inquiry, testing, for computer and database access, word processing, to read, as well as to enjoy the comfortable environment of the library. The library is the only place in a school where students can truly explore what passion they have to address and learn more about in a 21st century learning environment.

The Richland Library and Media Center is eager to assist student with their library and media needs. Our librarian enjoys working with all students to find a book, article, publication, primary or secondary resource needed to meet the needs of each student. Our library and media center currently houses over 4,000 books. We encourage all students to read and understand how to conduct appropriate research when investigating topics. Research shows that student success us closely tied with the student opportunity to access an abundance of reading materials in a variety of media formats.

One of main goals of the Richland Library and Media center is to help students improve their reading skills and instill a lifelong love of reading, conducting research and inquiry through books, technology and media. Currently, the “Reading Counts” computerized reading program is helping students achieve their reading goals. Students read for vocabulary, comprehension, speed, and class credits while using this reading program. Richland High School continually updates its growing collection of books and literary resources.

The Teen-Read-Aloud Program allows students to ear reading credit by reading to younger children in their household or within the community (e.g. Orange Public Library). This is part of the Power Reading Program. The library has an excellent collection of juvenile books for this purpose. Children who are read to when they are young become successful readers. It is Richland’s goal to make life long, 21st century learners in this day of literacy and technology. The librarian will provide one-on-one assistance with locating a informational and research inquiries on behalf of the students and staff. The Career Technical Education Center is also located in the library. If you are interested in exploring careers and other work or college opportunities, it is important that your visit this center, also located in the library.
